It couldn't be easier to have a supply of salad leaves. In this case I used a suitable compost and a wooden tray which Les kindly made for me. You can either use seeds or plants (if you are impatient). It is a good idea to have two on the go...and to keep them near at hand so you can snip of some leaves when you want - much nicer than those awful bags of salad.

I do this each year. I have a terracotta pot filled with a mix of salad leaves. I love the idea of doing two. I could switch back and forth with which one I take them from keeping them both going longer. I also love to plant up herbs in pots to that I sit around the garden.

I'm experimenting with growing potatoes in buckets this year for a change. They're coming along nicely. I love having pots of herbs all round the garden, they bestow such a sense of tranquility on the place!

I have some herbs in pots right in my kitchen and I wonder if I could grow some lettuce as well? I need more space!!!

Beautiful colours too! ;-) Sal
